Geezers field is set, Women’s and Mixed Doubles registration is open

Five seeded groups of eight players will compete for coveted over-70 bragging rights at Marshdale tomorrow morning. Warmups will start at 7:30 a.m., with a players’ meeting at 7:55 and play at 8. Check in with Jim Hunsaker at a table near the pavilion when you arrive. You’ll be given a scoresheet so you can track when you’re up next.

Tournament director Mick Pearce said each group of players will be photographed before play starts. Please smile.

The tournament will occupy all eight courts at Marshdale from 7:30 to noon; there will be no drop-in play until afternoon. Food for competitors will be provided by Kathy Kincannon and Jim Mosby will set up a display of club gear. Spectators must remain outside the courts.

Mixed Doubles registration is underway

The annual EPC Mixed Doubles Tournament, a double-elimination affair, will be Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Marshdale. Registration is open; the fee is $50 per team, with room for up to 16 teams. If you want us to help find you a partner, say so on your registration form.

Teams will be placed in brackets based on skill level. The first match is best of three games to 11. Winners move on in the bracket, while losing teams match up for one game to 15, rally scoring. The eventual winners in the lower bracket will take on the winners in the upper bracket.

Registration closes Tuesday, Sept. 10, or when we sell out. You must be an EPC member to play in the tournament.
