Marshdale hosts Geezers in first post-renovation tournament

Mick Pearce congratulates Larry Anderson

The first tournament of the post-renovation Marshdale era matched up a bunch of 70-somethings and one 80-something who was awarded the Top Geezer prize for his gumption. “Good Larry” Anderson got the honorary award, but it was Jack Darnell who topped the field with first place in Group 1.

Other group winners were Don Marshall, Randy Heern, Meg Leonard and Leanor Lessard.

Tournament director Mick Pearce put together another fun, competitive and well-run event, aided by several indispensable volunteers. The all-important scorekeepers were Sarah German, Claire Roberts, John Dunlop, Todd Landrum and Jim Hunsaker. Jim also checked in the competitors. EPC Treasurer Jeri Herskovits handled money matters and generally helped things run as smoothly as possible.

Mick marshals his minions to give competitors the best conditions possible: for instance, Linda Jacobsen blew debris off the courts and John Dunlop was spotted sanitizing the handles of the portable toilets.

Then there was the food, which was a cut above protein bars and bananas, thanks to Kathy Kincannon and her helpers. Jim Mosby tended the gear tent, which did a pretty brisk business.

Mick Pearce ran the show—with a lot of help, he would be the first to say.

If you build it ...

They came, they saw, some conquered.
