Evergreen Parks & Recreation Pickleball Classes

The Evergreen Parks and Recreation District (EPRD) offers courses for Beginners to learn the basics of the sport, and for Intermediates to polish skills and improve their game.

These classes are a great opportunity to get involved and up to speed in the fastest-growing and most popular sport in America.

In the Beginner classes, EPC members Corinne Jackson and David Smith will lead participants through the pickleball basics: Serve, Return, Dink, and Volley and give instruction on rules and beginning strategy.

Intermediate classes will focus on Strategy, Lobbing, Soft Game skills and more.

Classes are offered several times a year. SEE THE WULF GYM SCHEDULE FOR DATES

Class Levels, Dates, and Fees are listed on the EPRD Web site.

Guidelines for Play

To play a game, place your paddle in the respective paddle holder, in proper order, and enjoy watching and learning as you wait your turn to play.

Games are to 11 (win by two) unless there are 13 or more paddles down with four courts of open play (or nine or more paddles down with two courts); then the game score is to 9 points (win by one).

Competitive Play

Thursday Ladder

Ladder is competitive play open to all pickleball players. Players are ranked by skill level and play in a four or five-player round robin. You move up or down the ladder based on your scores for those games. If you’d like to try friendly, local competition before signing up for an EPC or regional tournament, email the ladder director to sign up. Be sure to check the Wulf Gym Schedule for updates for Indoor Ladder play!

EPC Round Robin, Dinkeroo, Geezer Games, and Singles & Doubles Tournaments

Competitive events are held several times a year for EPC members. (Non-members may be invited to play is some events.) Players are placed into groups, based on skill level, for each of these tournaments. Awards given to winners of each group, based on total points scored. All outdoor events will held on the Marshdale Courts, at Mount Vernon Canyon Club, or 3rd Shot Pickleball. Check out Events page for dates and locations.

Information on Performance Clinics will be posted as available.

Tournament Play

Competitive play is challenging and can improve your game. It’s a great way to see how you stack up against other players at your skill level. Tournaments are usually structured for men’s, women’s and mixed doubles, and often for men’s and women’s singles. Players compete at their skill level, whether rated – 1.0 (Newbie) to 5.0 (Expert) – or general skill-level – novice, intermediate, advanced.
