Dinkeroo Reopens Registration for a Handful of Openings

A few last-minute cancellations have created openings in Wednesday’s Dinkeroo. We’ve reopened registration for the next day or so. If you’d like to play, get your registration in now.

The tournament is open to all skill levels with 6 groups of 8 players, so everyone can compete. Review the rules and be ready to be at Marshdale at 7:45 am Wednesday to play through the noon hour.

Al Buenning Secures EMS Courts for EPC Members This Summer

Al Buenning wouldn’t take no for an answer. After weeks negotiating with Jeffco Schools and Evergreen Middle School principal Mr. V, Al was able to secure the 3 courts behind the school exclusively for EPC member play until mid-August when school restarts.

L to R: Larry Flowers, Peter Mathis, George Crego, Al Buenning, Marcia Larson, Bruce Finn, Dino Parato and Don Marshall

Al and the Northend Evergreen Players will refurbish and control access to the courts. EPC members will be asked to sign a liability waiver requested by Jeffco Schools.

“Yesterday, nine volunteers showed up at the EMS courts for the preparation of the three pickleball courts. A special thanks to Larry F., Bruce F., Don M., Marsha L., Al B., George C., Peter M., Dino P. and Frankie K. Only the rain could slow this group down,” Al writes.

“All three courts were power washed to remove the loose, old paint. We cleaned the cracks and washed the courts very clean - Larry, Frankie and Don on the gun. Debris and dirt were removed so courts would properly drain. Marsha and Bruce cracked filled court number one.

“Tomorrow morning (Sunday) I hope we can crack fill the remaining courts, then painting and stripping Monday or late Sunday afternoon. Anybody who is available, we’d love you to join us. Let's plan on beginning at 9:30 am.”

Al thinks the courts could be ready for play mid-week.

Watch the Pickleball Commercial Filmed at Marshdale Last Summer

TV commercial shot at Marshdale last summer with “Tennis Babe” Linda Jacobsen as background.

Remember when Marshdale was closed a day last summer for the shoot of a pickleball commercial? It was for Cochlear Implants and featured a foursome of actors that had never played the game.

Bob Taber coached the actors to get them to look like they knew how to play. Pretty close.

But when you see that the star actor drop serves from the kitchen line, lands the serve in the opponents’ kitchen, then smashes the return on the fly and promptly steps into the NVZ and celebrates the point anyway, you’ll know Bob didn’t do that good of a job.

Better were the background actors - Linda Jacobsen and Jeri Herskovits, known onset as the “Tennis Babes.” Their version of tennis dinking was an attempt to keep them in frame in the background.

Hey, it’s Hollywood. But, here it is. Click on the woman, titled “Pickle Ball.” Two words?! Oh well.
