Tournament for a cause

The third annual Christian Ervick Memorial B.A.L.A.N.C.E. Scholarship Pickleball Fundraiser will take place Saturday, Aug. 17, at Mount Vernon Canyon Club. “This event promises an exciting day of pickleball while supporting a meaningful cause,” said Travis Ervick, racquet sports director at MVCC and EPC board member.

 Event Details

All events this year are open play time slots. For open play, courts will be leveled appropriately based on how many of each level have signed up. (Beginner, Lower Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Advanced). We will have 10 courts for use on the day and will designate the courts’ level based on how many players sign up per division. The number of courts available for each level will be determined by the number of players registered for that level during that time.

Cost: $55 per person, with all net proceeds benefiting the Christian Ervick B.A.L.A.N.C.E Scholarship. You may register for more than one time slot for an additional $55.

Time Slots: 8-10 a.m., 10 a.m.-noon, noon- 2 p.m., 2-4 p.m.

The Christian Ervick B.A.L.A.N.C.E Scholarship honors the memory of Christian David Ervick, supporting the Theta Xi-Alpha Eta chapter members and potential members who embody B.A.L.A.N.C.E. (Brotherhood, Academics, Leadership, Adventure, Nobility, Community Service, Excellence/Extreme Sports). Christian's legacy continues through this scholarship, ensuring his light shines on within our community. To date, 12 Scholarships have been awarded.

“Your participation will not only enrich your pickleball experience but also contribute to a cause that celebrates values close to our hearts,” Travis said. “We look forward to seeing you at this special event. Please register at your earliest convenience to secure your spot.”

Fences are up at Marshdale

Thanks to Kathy Fasold, Bob Kerr and Linda Jacobsen for sharing photos of recent progress at the Marshdale courts.

Kathy Fasold photographed the allure of concrete on July 18.

Bob Kerr’s shot on July 20 shows permanent exterior and interior fencing completed on July 20. A movable fence will be added from north to south to divide the courts into four groups of two. Gates also will be installed.
