Now is the time to get your name into the 7th Annual Round Robin Tournament, Saturday, August 12, 8 am at Marshdale. There are 5 groups of 8 players by skill levels. Registration closes end of day Monday, August 7.

As one door closes, another opens. Registration for the inaugural 70+ Geezer Games tournament is now open. The round robin format features up to 3 groups of 8 players in the 70-79 age group and one group in the 80+ age group. The event is Friday, August 25 at Marshdale.

If you can help out with either tournament as a volunteer, let Mick Pearce, EPC Tournaments Director, know.

Latest Update on EMS Courts from Al Buenning

“We need to discontinue weekday morning play beginning August 16, the first day of school for EMS students.  I was told that students need the space for Phy. Ed. classes and plain old "grab ass" during recess/noon time.  All that space behind the school and they NEED an old broken down tennis courts - go figure.

“So, Bruce Flinn, Peter Mathis and anyone who wants to help will meet at 10 am Monday, August 14 after pickleball play has concluded.  We are going to store the fencing material and nets in the storage box. The nets in their bags will be on top, so if you want to play weekends or after 4 pm, go for it. Hopefully you can help Bruce store our stuff.

Pickle on and on.

EPC Players Convene on Western Colorado Courts

Jeri Herskovits, EPC Treasurer, sends us postcards from the Western Slope.

“I had a chance to visit our friends from Palisade Pickleball over the last few days. Their resident ambassador Wanda Robinson opened her arms in welcome and some of the players actually remembered me from last year.

“Had a great time even though humid and hot at 7:30am. One of the locals, Don, was playing with a strange looking paddle new on the market but he said was legal. Developed for those with tennis elbow and other physical constraints. I just had to try it. A bit of getting used to and I have to admit felt like holding a hand saw and seemed a bit flippy. But Don had no trouble whatsoever slamming a few balls past me.

“Games well played and everyone just having fun and, like us here in Evergreen,  just love pickleball. Thank you Palisade Pickleball friends for a great day at the park.”

The next day Jeri joined about 20 EPC members camping in Buena Vista. “We’re going to visit the new pickleball facilities,” she writes. “Fun times with good people: Peter and Sandy Mathis, Mick and Peggy Pearce, Bruce and June Flinn, Shirley Price, Brian Klepacki, Joann and Tom Ingwalson, Maureen Gehlhausen and Jim Fisher.”
