Here’s Your Chance to Coach Pickleball

Pickleball will again be part of the EPRD Summer Sports Camp for kids this year, thanks to enthusiastic volunteers led by USA Pickleball Ambassador Linda Jacobsen. “Pickleball was a big hit last year, because our volunteers made it fun!” Linda said in encouraging people to sign up to coach the 6- to 11-year-olds.

The six pickleball sessions for campers will be on Wednesdays from 12:45 to 2 p.m. at Wulf Recreation Center. Dates are June 7, 21 and 28; July 12 and 26; and Aug. 2. Additional volunteers are needed for all sessions except July 26, which is now filled.

Please email Linda with the dates you can help.

Dream Come True: Chicken N Pickle Comes to Colorado

EPC founders Tom Karas, Al Buening and Larry Flowers have been not so patiently waiting a long time for something called Chicken N Pickle to come to our area. Their dreams are about to be realized.

A rendering of the future Chicken N Pickle in Parker

The company is set to open two of its pickleball/restaurant complexes in the Denver area in 2024. Thornton will get one and Parker the other.

We’re told CNP is wildly popular, and if your family/friend group is not as crazy about pickleball as you are, not to worry. There will be a variety of lawn games, from cornhole to ping pong, even Jenga. They also promise a sports bar and a “casual, chef-driven restaurant.”

Many EPC members have played at Chicken N Pickle in other states and can’t wait for it to get here. Maybe one of them can explain the name in a future newsletter. In the meantime, CNP Marketing Director Carrie Bartlow assured us, “Our team is very excited to be coming to Colorado!”

Bailey Pickleballers, Unite!

There is a move afoot to organize pickleball players in the Bailey area. A post popped up on TeamReach a couple of days ago from a new EPC member, Nancy Hamilton. Like many, she admits to being “hopelessly addicted” to the sport.

Nancy, along with EPC member Sheila Canfield Jones, has started a TeamReach group for people who live in or near Bailey so they can communicate about carpooling to Evergreen. And . . . “maybe collaborate on efforts to get courts built in Bailey.”

If you’re interested in joining the Bailey group, download the Team Reach app if you don’t already have it and use the code/password Pball80421 to join. Nancy helpfully provided a screenshot of her TeamReach front page. Looks like “hopelessly addicted” may be accurate, Nancy.

EPRD Still Seeking Volunteer Court Monitors at Wulf and Marshdale; Apply Now

People haven’t exactly been jumping at the chance to monitor pickleball at Marshdale, but if you’re interested, contact Jeff Sweet, EPRD Recreation Supervisor, or Brian Tucker, Recreation Manager, to request a volunteer pickleball court monitor application packet.

The Dainty Dinker Debuts

Are you in search of all things pickleball, including jewelry? If so, EPC member Andy Bond has a deal for you. If you use the phrase “evergreen pickles” you will get a 20% discount on orders from his website. And he’ll deliver to Wulf or Marshdale; just call him at 303-886-0059.
