Join Your EPC Friends for Some Halloween Fun

Come out for some great entertainment right here in the Colorado foothills this Thursday evening, Oct. 26, at The Wild Game in Bergen Park.

“Where else can you watch or participate in a dance contest with your pickleball friends?” asks Cherie Peterson, EPC social director. “ If you choose to wear a costume, no one will even know who you are!”

You can pay online. If you have difficulty, just come and pay at the door. This is a members’ event with spouses, significant others and special guests welcome. $10 per person will help us cover our costs. It’s a cash bar and we can order from the menu.

We’ll begin at 6 p.m. and go until 9 p.m. Be there or be square. Wear some flowers in your hair or a black leather jacket and motorcycle boots. So many possibilities.

EPC Gets Channel 7 Mention

Thanks to EPRD executive director Cory Vander Veen, our club got some love from Denver’s Channel 7 News. Check it out on YouTube.

Burn, Baby, Burn

Pickleball and fitness aficionado Jerry Beth Owen noticed when The Dink pointed out a study of just how many calories we’re all burning on the courts. For the study, Apple analyzed data from 250,000 individual, anonymous workouts tracked by Apple Watch.

Some highlights of the study:

  • As of July 2023, pickleball participation outpaced tennis, making it the most popular racquet sport among Apple Watch users.

  • While tennis workouts saw higher heart rate peaks, pickleball workouts were slightly longer than tennis workouts on average—90 minutes versus 81 minutes, respectively.

  • Unlike tennis, which often experiences significant seasonal fluctuations in participation, pickleball participation showed consistency nationwide throughout the year.

  • Utah emerged as the state with the highest level of activity in pickleball workouts, followed by California at number two.
