Icebreaker final is a crowd-pleaser
Both the scoreboard and the spectators were fired up Saturday for the championship game at the second annual EPRD Icebreaker Tournament at Wulf. EPC’s Linda Strauss and David Smith partnered to win the championship on center(ish) court with the rarely lit-up scoreboard showing 11-8. They defeated Brian Eiselt and Brian R. in a tightly contested final. The other semifinalists were Frank Kassay and Mike Glines, plus Larry Flowers and Dick Dench.
Sixteen doubles teams competed. “Everyone seemed to have a great time and the competition was good,” EPRD recreation supervisor Jeff Sweet said. “We also had a decent-sized group of spectators throughout the morning who cheered on the players.”
EPRD pickleball instructor Corinne Jackson and Greg Kyle, EPRD recreation specialist, helped put on the event.
“We hope to offer another tournament at Wulf in March and more at Marshdale in the summer,” Jeff said.
Thanks to Corinne, Jeff and Manu Salehi for taking photos.
