2025 Marshdale tournament schedule set
Correction: The Wulf gym will be open for drop-in play this coming Monday, Feb. 3. It will not be open for drop-in this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 1 and 2. It also will not be open for drop-in on Saturday, Feb. 22, because of a special event.
Mick Pearce would like your attention.
With sighs of relief and hopeful hearts, the EPC board of directors scheduled six 2025 tournaments at its Jan. 7 meeting. No more waiting for courts to be finished, no more finagling alternate locations, no more canceling because of lack of participation in an uncertain environment.
EPC Tournament Director Mick Pearce has confirmed reservations for the Marshdale courts for each of the six tournaments, all but two of which will be on Saturday mornings. We hope the increasing number of members who work during the week now will have the opportunity to participate. The Geezer Games and Dinkeroo will be held on Fridays.
Starting us off, as usual, will be the Round Robin on Saturday, June 7. Players will be placed in groups of eight based on skill level.
The Dinkeroo, for lovers of the soft game, will be Friday, June 27. (We had a formal vote on whether to spell it with an “e” or an “a”. Your dues dollars at work.) This fun event was canceled last year after only 13 players signed up. We’re guessing people didn’t want to make the trek down the hill to 3rd Shot Pickleball, our alternative to the closed Marshdale courts.
The Geezer Games, open only to those 70 and older, will be Friday, July 11. No whippersnappers . . . OK, these youngster quips are getting old. They must cease.
Mixed Doubles, always a fascinating study in interpersonal relations, will be Saturday, July 19.
Then it’s on to Men’s Doubles on Saturday, Aug. 9. This event is only back this year because the guys have promised Mick not to cancel their registrations at the last minute this time. Men, always changing their minds.
The caboose to the tournament season is Women’s Doubles on Saturday, Sept. 6. This event has proven to be highly competitive and also lots of fun. It was canceled for lack of participation last year during our summer of woe.
Tournament cost this year will be $30 per player, to cover Marshdale court rental fees and other expenses. Players must be members of Evergreen Pickleball Club. Registration will be opened about two weeks ahead of each tournament.
