Round Robin registration is open
It’s time to sign up for EPC’s first 2024 tournament, to be held at Mount Vernon Canyon Club since the Marshdale courts will be under renovation by then.
Up to 48 players will vie for honors in their skill level groups on Saturday, June 8. Click here to register and here to renew or start your EPC membership. Tournament cost is $25, membership is $20 per year.
“Only EPC members will be allowed to play in the Round Robin,” tournament director Mick Pearce said. “We will also need volunteers for the event: court set-up, scorekeepers, etc.” Contact Mick or fill out a volunteer registration form here.
Round Robin players will be placed in groups of eight based on skill level, rotating through a set of seven games, play to 11 win by one.
Six courts at MVCC will be available for warmups at 7:30 a.m. June 8. Tournament play will start at 8 a.m. and finish by noon. Food and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided by EPC and club gear will be displayed for sale.
Marshdale still open for play this coming week
The latest tentative date for start of construction at Marshdale is Friday, May 24, but we said a temporary goodbye to our beautiful courts last Monday with mimosas and doughnut holes.
Local play will shift to Evergreen Middle School, where EPRD will move the nets from Marshdale and repaint the three pickleball courts with help from EPC, and to Marshdale Elementary School, where lines for three or four courts will be painted on an existing slab.
The best way to see who’s playing where and when is to download the TeamReach app and join the “Evergreen CO Pickleball” and “EMS” groups. You will need a group code for each: Pball80439 for Evergreen and EMS222 for EMS.
Of course, Wulf gymnasium will remain a place to play this summer, with a new pickleball schedule due to go into effect May 29. Keep your eye on the EPRD website for the new schedule.
Spring Fling brings local pickleballers together
Almost 100 partiers feasted at a taco bar and downed some pretty strong margaritas Wednesday at the annual Spring Fling, all provided by Gig Blitz. Gig, who plays pickleball and sells some real estate too, also will back the upcoming Dinkeroo and Women’s Doubles tournaments.
EPC social director Cherie Peterson had more than a little something to do with the planning and execution of the event at The Wild Game. “It was quite satisfying to have conversations that we could finish, unlike on the court sidelines!” Cherie said. “And it was fun seeing people who play at different levels who we don't get to see on the courts.”
