Inaugural Men's Doubles Tournament Saw 16 Teams Battle in the Sun

It was a beautiful day for a tournament. Two groups of 8 teams each met on the courts at Marshdale today to determine the best men’s teams in Evergreen.

Making it happen, under the leadership of EPC Tournaments Director Mick Pearce, were volunteers Claire Roberts, Mike Craig, Pat Theno, Jim Mosby, Jim Hunsaker, Sarah German, Linda Jacobsen, Jeri Herskovits, John Dunlop, and Monte Poague.

Twenty-one Women’s Doubles teams go at it Thursday, July 13. Players are to be there by 7:45 am for instruction and warmup. Play starts promptly at 8 am.

Group 1:

First-place finishers Jarrod Leddy and Larry Flowers faced runners up Jeff Dickenson and Jack Darnell twice in the tournament - two shows for the price of one.

Jim Treitman and Joe Pratt plowed through the lower bracket to get to the the semi-final, walking away with 3rd place.

Group 2: Kneeling: David Durand, Tim Anderson, James Hixson. Standing: Don Marshall, Dan Goldstein, John Weakley, Steve Wasik, Udo Hartung, Monte Poague, George Crego, Larry Anderson, Joe Gruber, Gary Euliss, Roger Miles, Miles Ventura (9) and Peter Mathis.

Taking it to three games in the final of a five-match, best of three, bracket, Peter Mathis and Joe Gruber took 1st over Dan Goldstein and David Durand, 2nd.

Tim Anderson and James “Flippy Sticks” Hixson hiked over from Hiwan to impress the Marshdale crowd with a 3rd place finish.
