Pickleball. Finally, Something to Test Positive About

a message from Sarah and Linda

Beware, there is a virus on the pickleball courts at Wulf. It’s not Covid. It’s negativity and it is frenetically running amuck. Have you tested for this virus? Are you spreading it?

Do you have any idea how fortunate we are to have a place to play indoors during our frigid, snowbound winter days? It’s called Wulf. We are so lucky to have the rec center courts. Instead of complaining about everything, we should be very grateful.

Aren’t you tired of all the whining that is constantly humming in the background, while trying to enjoy a nice game of pickleball with your friends? Players, check yourself. Is it you? Are you contributing to the negative environment? Are you creating and spreading the virus?

Stop the virus. Please, let’s make a concerted effort to be more positive, embrace our good luck and be kind.

Getting to Know Our Club Members

Award Winning Artist Tatiana Love Lee Loves Pickleball

If you have played pickleball with Tatiana, you no doubt have noticed her exuberant, outgoing nature. She loves this sport and appreciates how friendly players are. If you are fortunate enough to view her award-winning artwork, you will notice that she is able to express deep feelings through her work. Look into the eyes of her bears or the wild elephant walking through the screen in front of the young children.

Tatiana grew up in the foothills of Urial Mountains, Ufa, Russia. She had little formal training early in life except for one art class which she loved. Her father dismissed her desire to be an artist and insisted that she get degrees in Economics and Engineering.

Working as a guide in Moscow, Tatiana met an American who brought her to the US along with her 8 year-old daughter. Her first job in Denver as a security guard gave her time to paint, so she bought a canvas and created the kayaker in the waves, showing without a doubt just how talented she is. She earned a degree in Art Education and taught at Dakota Ridge High School.

Tatiana believes that her daughter, her home, her current husband and her pickleball community are some of the best things that have happened to her. She appreciates our pickleball community of fun loving, non-judgmental players, feeling supported and cared about.

After winning Best in Show at the Center for Arts Evergreen Winter Festival for her portrayal of a deeply traumatized young Ukrainian child, Tatiana felt huge appreciation for the pickleball people who showed up to help her pack at the end of the show. She expressed her surprise and delight at this generous gesture.

Pickleball friends also bought many framed prints of her paintings. An admirer of her talent was so moved by the quality and depth of her work, that she wrote an article and sent it to CBS Colorado. The letter resulted in a three-minute segment on our local news station profiling the award winning “Nightmare,” which she painted after a terrifying dream of suffering Ukrainian children.

Tatiana came out to the Marshdale courts last summer and quickly found people willing to teach her how to play pickleball. She continues to feel gratitude for so many who have included her while she improves her game.

Look for Tatiana’s paintings at Elk Run and in Niza Knoll gallery in Denver, and at Gilpin Country Art Association in Central City. She’ll be in the Fine Arts Festival and Summerfest in Evergreen this summer.
