Get Your Dinkeroo Registration in Now, Spots Filling Up
EPC’s tournament season gets underway with the Spring Dinkeroo 2022, Tuesday, May 24, 9am-1pm, at Marshdale Courts.
Dinkeroo is a fun, friendly, competitive tournament open to EPC members of all skill levels. Groups of eight will play a round robin based on dinking. Every shot, including the serve, is from the No Volley Zone, or the kitchen line. The ball must bounce before you hit it and it must land in the opponent’s kitchen.
THE RULES FOR DINKEROO
1. Start and scoring the game is the same. You serve from outside the kitchen line to the opposite side of the opponents’ court.
2. Every ball must bounce in the kitchen before it is hit. You can step into the kitchen to hit the ball, but you must step out with both feet before stepping back into the kitchen to hit the next shot.
3. The kitchen line is in as if it were the base line. The center line is in on serves.
4. Dinkeroo is a game of pace and patience. Almost all points are made on an unforced error as opposed to a "kill" shot. Slamming or hitting your opponent with a drive, even if they’re in the kitchen, is your opponents’ point.
5. Game to 11, win by one.
Watch how the game is played.
$10 registration fee for EPC members. If you haven’t paid your 2022 dues, add your EPC membership as you register for the tournament. Registration closes end of day Thursday, May 19. You will be notified of your group of eight over the weekend.
We need volunteers: If you don’t plan to play but would like to be involved, we need volunteers on the courts. Let us know what you can do.
Play at Marshdale Blossoming with Good Weather
Nearly 50 players showed up at Marshdale Sunday morning for open play. As it’s been several months since we were playing there regularly, a few reminders:
Open play means everyone, regardless of skill level, shows up at scheduled times. However, the courts are designated for play by skill level. The four courts to the north (back) side are Upper Intermediate/Advanced. The south (nearest the entrance) four courts are Novice/Intermediate. Stack your paddle in the fence nearest the north and south gates.
Saturday mornings 9:00 am - 12:30 pm all courts are reserved for EPRD pickleball classes.
The orange nets between north and south courts have a gate on wheels. Use that to go from front to back courts rather than stepping on the concrete weight.
If any of the courts on the tennis court have the temporary pickleball nets in place for play, be sure to move them against the east fence when you leave.
Never bring chairs or dogs onto the court.
Keep benches clear of bags and bottles. Give people space to sit.
Pickleball Singles, “Pingles,” Coming to Marshdale
Who knew there were so many people interested in playing singles? Linda Jacobsen says she has about 20 people ready to play.
“We’ll play on Wednesday early afternoons and Saturday afternoons/evenings. Whoever shows up, plays. I’ll email the list of players the day before and again morning of with specific times and weather updates.”
If you’d like to get the Pingle tingle, contact Linda.
EPC Members Donate 35 New Paddletek® Club Paddles to Ukrainian Refugees
You are a caring, generous bunch. We made a second call for an additional half dozen paddles to reach our goal of 30. Overnight you donated nearly a dozen more paddles. Incredible!
We’ll update you when they arrive in Schambach, Germany in the next few weeks.
