EPC and Colorado Tournaments Gearing Up for the Season

It’s not too early to start planning your spring/summer/fall pickleball tournaments here in Evergreen and around the state. We’ve loaded our Events page with four EPC tournaments starting with the Spring Dinkeroo May 24, the 6th Annual Round Robin June 21, the return of the popular Mixed Doubles Double-Elimination Tournament July 27, and finishing up with the Season Finale Dinkeroo Sept. 27. Registration won’t open until a couple weeks before each event, but put them on your calendar now. (Dates are subject to change.)

The Colorado Tournaments page opens with 12 events announced so far this year with half taking registrations now. The Colorado Open hasn’t been set yet; it’ll be added as soon as it does. Steamboat Tennis & Pickleball is resurfacing its outdoor courts this summer so no Steamboat Classic this year. Let us know if you spot other tournaments that should be on our list.

Plan to Attend EPC Spring Board of Directors Meeting

The first board meeting of 2022 will be held March 2, 11 am at Lariat Lodge (upstairs). All EPC members are welcome to attend. Check out the agenda (subject to change.)

Snow Angels Are Earning Their Wings

The incredible effort of our Snow Angels, under Captain Monte Poague, has kept Marshdale courts playable throughout this winter. If you’d like to help out let Linda Jacobsen know. You’ll be awarded your official Snow Angel pin after the first hour of work. The next three days look to be in the high 40s with sunshine so let’s get out and play. Be sure to thank your angel.

Meanwhile, Linda gives us these Do’s and Don’ts for clearing snow at Marshdale:
Do use only EPRD approved shovels (white clips on bottom edge)
Do use push brooms and squeegees
Do use tarps to slide snow from courts
Do use towels to soak up water
Do close the gates
Do move snow outside the fencing
Don’t use any other shovels, period
Don’t move snow onto the tennis court
Don’t move snow onto other pickleball courts
Don’t ever move the nets
Don’t ever allow animals on the courts
DO HAVE FUN PLAYING PICKLEBALL AT MARSHDALE

EHS PE Students Get a Master Class from EPC Pickleball Players

Approximately 50 Evergreen High School students came to Wulf over two days last week to test their play against some of our seasoned players. PE teacher Beau Brake challenged us to “not go easy on them.” Gig Blitz, Owen Ellis, Larry Flowers, Frank Kassay, Scott Williams, Linda Jacobsen and Jeri Herskovits coached them up, then shut‘em down. We hope to see these students continue their pickleball education by showing up to play during regularly scheduled times.

EPRD’s Beginner, Next Steps, and Skills & Drills Classes Taking Registrations

Speaking of classes, Sarah German’s in-demand classes start up again Saturday, Feb. 26 at Wulf Rec Center. First-timers get an introduction to rules, how to play, and scoring. Next Steps class takes those beginners to the next level with more work on technique and court position. Skills & Drills works experienced players on serving, dinking, getting to the kitchen line and shot placement. Classes fill quickly, so get your reservation in now.

Masks No Longer Mandatory at Wulf

Effective today, the mask mandate in Jefferson County is suspended. That means you don’t have to pretend to cover your mouth, nose and chin - you can let it all hang out. Or, you can continue to take precautions and chose to wear your mask. We’re good with it either way.
