Al's Update on EMS: A Third Court and New Hours

EMS.jpg

Last week I met with Montana Brown, the assistant principal at EMS, regarding our future play on their eastern tennis court. She informed me that per school district policies we cannot use this space from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm beginning August 24. This eliminates our Tuesday/Thursday 8:00 am sessions beginning next week. Our weekend play on Saturday/Sunday beginning at 8:00 am is still available until the snow flies.
Several players suggested that we begin an afternoon session at 4:00 pm. It would be ideal with the onset of Fall weather. It might be a nice option for those of you who like to sleep in.
Yesterday, with the help of John Claus and others, we laid out a third court. This addition reduces playing pressure. Though it has the worst playing surface of the three courts, it is still very playable. It took only ten minutes to lay out the court. Thanks to those who helped complete the project in such a short amount of time.
I am meeting with the physical education staff at EMS next week to discuss our support of their pickleball program. Our agenda will cover discussion of paddles, nets, outdoor balls, instruction, interclub play, and other avenues of support. We obviously will discuss their use of our three courts in their Life Skills physical education curriculum.
A number of you have contributed dollars toward the purchase of nets at EMS. We need additional support, as we are purchasing two new nets. If you are so motivated, please talk to me.

Pickle on in safety and health,
