Let EPRD Know You Support Additional Courts at Newly Acquired Parcel
Monty Estis, EPRD board member and EPC member requests our help. He told us, “recently, Evergreen Parks and Recreation (EPRD), acquired a parcel of land in the Evergreen Meadows area on CO73 adjacent to the LDS (Mormon) church. As you know, both the tennis and pickleball courts at Marshdale are often over capacity. This new parcel is a nice, flat piece of land that would be ideal for courts (pickleball or tennis). As groups like to play together, one idea would be to have multiple tennis courts at one location and dedicated pickleball courts at the other. That way, more people could be playing rather than waiting.
”Ellen O’Connor, EPRD executive director, and the other board members are not yet in support of this plan. Bill May suggested we consider selling this land, and other ideas included only a picnic shelter. We have a park and picnic shelter at Marshdale that never appears to be overcrowded, so another park or shelter that close seems superfluous. Given that we need more recreation opportunities in this area, I am against either of those ideas.
”EPRD offers many opportunities in the northern and central parts of the district, but little (especially for seniors) on the south end of the district. It would be nice for those residents to get something for their tax dollars.
”EPRD has started its 2020 budget planning, and now is the time to allocate funding for development of this land. If you agree that using the new property for courts is a good idea, I encourage you to write the Executive Director and Board members. I suggest this be done individually, as it has more impact than a group contacting EPRD.”
